| Someone dying in a nursing home does not usually raise too many
eyebrows. After all, the people there are old and in need of constant
care or they would not be there to start with. The problems occur
when people die before their time or are injured by the negligence,
lack of care or lack of staffing at the nursing home. Nursing homes
are big business in Florida. Many national companies maintain large
nursing homes in this state. The nursing home may look clean and
appear well staffed, but that appearance changes when the residents
end up with bedsores, break bones when staff members accidentally
drop them or the resident dies from lack of care or lack of required
staffing.
Bed sores are among the most serious and easily proved injuries.
They should not occur with proper care, and once they do occur,
they should be monitored to prevent the sores from getting worse.
The medical community knows what to do, the problem is that in
an effort to make a profit for their corporate bosses, the nursing
home administrators cut back on the staff necessary to turn and
monitor patients - with disastrous results.
